Told in the words of those involved, this programme remembers the key phases of the Battle Of Britain. The biggest aerial battle in the history of war began on August 9th 1940 when three hundred German aircraft swept across Southern England. Goering had promised Hitler the \'greatest of victories\' and Britain appeared vulnerable. Despite being outnumbered and over stretched the Royal Air Force rose to the challenge and, by September 17th had made Britain\'s skies safe once more. Former members of 501 Squadron reveal their own experiences from these desperate times.
