Winner of an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film Kolya tells the story of a middle-aged Czech cellist who is footloose and fancy-free. When he finds himself strapped for cash he agrees to a marriage of convenience. But his new bride skips town leaving him with her five-year old Russian son Kolya. Both are equally unhappy about the situation especially as neither of them speak the same language. Gradually the barriers between the two of them start to move and a loving bond is formed.
